  • Outward Bound for Veterans.

May 16th 2010, until May 21st 2010, I had the amazing opportunity to participate in a pilot program for Veterans. With the sponsorship and support from the Royal Canadian legion, Outward bound Canada through the imagination of two former Princess Patricia’s developed a peer support initiative to be held in the Bow Valley near Canmore Alberta. The program was developed to assist soldiers returning from overseas deployments, but is only currently offered to former members. This course is instructed by qualified instructors from Outward Bound, it is 100% paid for by the legion, and is or could be a life changing moment for many former serving soldiers.   Six soldiers from different lives within the service set out on an amazing journey to find support, peace, and methods to help with transition from military life. This particular pilot saw us hike from Mount Yamniska up to Ghost River. Throughout the 6 days, the six of us were paced through different challenges. This time enabled us all to have a sense of belonging similar to that of military culture. Good friendships were formed, outstanding memories were made, and the veteran helping veteran incentive was launched.

  • Mention in Dispatches - Corporal Nathan Hornburg.

It is with solemn pride that the Regiment announces the posthumous award
of Mention in Dispatches to Corporal Nathan Hornburg, a KOCR soldier
attached to C Sqn LdSH(RC) for TF 1-07. It is a rare and great honour
    that is very much deserved.

Nathan's steadfast commitment to his friends and fellow soldiers in the
face of danger remains deserving of our recognition and an inspiration
to all who serve. The Strathcona's are encouraged to hear that his brave
actions are to be commended in this manner. This award will further
serve to help us remember Nathan for the kind of dedicated soldier and
hard-working person that he always was.

    Cpl Hornburg's citation reads:

  • Reunion 2010 Update

Reunion 2010 Update - For those who are planning to stay at the Edmonton Marriott River Cree Resort Hotel (and I hope that is all of you!) we have been advised that we will have to wait until July the 13th 2009, before booking our rooms. This is contrary to the dates that were posted in the letter and registration form. The hotel tells me that this is a computer issue! So if you can "Persevere" for another week or so, there should be no problem!
